More About Us

Communities are built by people. They grow when people share what they know, welcome newcomers, make connections, show up for one another, and pass things along to the next generation. OPEN Kink grew out of a desire to strengthen those connections across Nebraska. We believe education and social opportunities are important, but so is the community that grows around them. We're working toward a Nebraska kink community where people with different interests, identities, experience levels, and backgrounds can learn from one another and have a place to belong.

There are other organizations in the area that host events, meet-ups, and classes in specific cities/towns; and there are affinity groups that specialize in a specific aspect of kink play, like human pets and handlers, ABDL groups, gay men’s groups, and rope practice groups. We appreciate affinity groups that specialize in a particular interest, while we also see the need for a broader community ecosystem. 

if folks don’t have a clear, grounded, ethical path into kink, they'll find one anyway and it might not be the best representation of “what it is we do”: Twitter, Reddit, porn, or YouTube bros who treat kink like a conquest or game or claim “one true way” to be a dominant or a submissive.

We also see the need for an organizational structure that is sustainable and does not depend on the efforts of just one or two motivated organizers. We're building something that can belong to the broader Nebraska kink community and continue growing long after any one member steps away.
